always going to be a big ask.
With determination and
great club spirit the Miners set
their bats at getting to it and the
team had a surprisingly good

He also pushed them be-

Tim McGrath also pulled
out some great stops at first

Catch of the day belonged to

CLUB racing was held last Sunday
with racing starting and finishing at the
Woolamai Race Track entry.
The course involved a run around the Bass
Flats, through Glen Forbes, out to the Bass High-
way before a return run to Glen Forbes and then
up through the gorge road toward Dalyston be-
fore another right turn into Mill Road for the run
back to the race track.
It is a tough course and luckily for the rid-
ers, conditions were good but with a north wind
increasing throughout the morning.
This season there has been a number of Sun-
day morning race days scheduled as it was hoped
this time slot may attract more starters but it does
not seem to have helped.
The A Grade field had 10 starters with Austin
Timmins alone on scratch chasing two riders on
four minutes, two on six minutes, a lone rider on
eight minutes, two riders on 10 minutes with fur-
ther lone riders at 18 minute and 22 minutes.
By the time the field returned to the climb at
Glen Forbes it was Dane Herbert (18 minutes) in
front with Rod Cheyne (11) moving away from
Meanwhile behind, the backmarkers had
closed in and Leigh Stott (6) and Oliver McLean
(4) were starting to move away from the others.
The scratch rider had also closed in.
The long descent from the top of the climb
back to Mill Road was a problem for Oliver as he
is on restricted Junior gears and could not get the

Alex Welsh was fourth, Austin Timmins fifth
and fastest (1.8 .55), Oliver Mclean sixth, Kevin
Feely seventh, Brad Bouquet eighth, Damian
King ninth and visiting Carnegie/Caulfield rider
David Wereszczuk was 10th.
The B Grade field raced out to the highway
and back and had to negotiate a small climb at
Glen Forbes in the otherwise flat course.
Thomas Fitzgerald had the visiting rider, Josh
Wereszczuk, riding off scratch with him as they
chased 2.30 minutes to Kaleb Jans and six min-
utes to Harry Herbert.
The extra rider on scratch meant they moved
through the field and had the leaders caught by
At the finish Josh was too quick for Thomas in
the sprint and took first and fastest time in 43.54.
Next in was Kaleb in third and Harry in fourth.
Next week the racing will be on Saturday with
the start at Dumbalk.
There is a club meeting on Tuesday night with
the club needing to decide whether to run the
Junior Road Weekend again next year and also
whether to run the Individual Time Trial Series
