THE Leongatha Veteran Ladies winter
tennis competition came to an end on
Pansies was the great and deserving winner
with Lillies the runner-up.
At the other end of the yarn, Roses held the
big wooden kitchen implement.
The veterans are interested to hear from any
lady who would like to come along to begin or
resume their tennis.
It is a very social and happy day for enjoying
both tennis and everyone else’s company.

LAST Wednesday, heavy rain resulted
in the course being too wet for playing
A small number enjoyed the fine and warmer
weather on Saturday.
Lee Clements (12) won with 31 points and
was NTP on the 13th
Judy Webb was runner up and had the clos-
est second shot on the seventh green.
The club will continue to have an NTP award
for the second shot on the seventh until it can re-
start on the Red course.
Four women played in the SGWGA Joyce
Berry 4BBB at Lang Lang on Friday, with Ber-
yl Brown and Lee Clements pleased to win a
Next Wednesday, is the Doris Chambers 18
Hole Foursomes and there is a timesheet for the
women in this competition. Players who are not
in that event can play a Stableford game, hitting
off the 10th
LANG Lang Golf Club hosted the final
South Gippsland Women’s Golf Associa-
tion event for 2016.
The Joyce Berry 4BBB Par Championship has
been held annually for almost 40 years.
Joyce Berry, in whose honour the event is held,
was a captain and champion at Wonthaggi Golf
Club for many years as well as holding long term
positions as a South Gippsland delegate and country
The Lang Lang Community Bank Branch of the
Bendigo Bank sponsored this event and the trophies
supplied were presented by Paul Vaughan, manager
of the Lang Lang branch.
The Bendigo Bank will continue this valued
sponsorship next year.
Winners of the championship, and not their first,
were Rebecca Thomas and Mary Brewis from Le-
ongatha Golf Club. Rebecca and Mary combined
well to finish with 79, four strokes ahead of their
nearest rivals Anne Walker and Marg Johnson from
Wonthaggi Golf Club.
Yvonne Trask and Cheryl Owen from Lang
Lang Golf Club, teamed well to win the Minor
Scratch with 92.
Another Lang Lang combination Libby de Hay
and Cath Briant won the A Grade handicap event
with an excellent +7.
The club handicapper will need to have a close
look at this card.
The B Grade handicap section was won by a
well deserved pair who had made the long trip from
Welshpool to compete in the event.
Jeanette Swan and Trish Latch, disadvantaged
by playing in a large group at the end of the field,
had an excellent score of +6.

ninth and Mary Brewis on the 15th.
The South Gippsland Women’s Golf Associa-
tion executive would like to extend thanks to the
Lang Lang’s women’s captain Sue Purser and her
committee for their excellent organisation in run-
ning the event.
